April 3-15
Daily journals are altering into something different for the time being as I fall into a routine. I’ve spent the past two weeks living here on Gili Trawangan working at M Box hostel. It has been an incredible experience but not necessarily because I’m doing anything exceptional, but because I’ve gotten to meet and be around a lot of really wonderful people. The day to day is pretty similar which may not make for the most fascinating of blog posts but I’m loving it. We wake up and spend the days hanging out by the pool. I’ll sign people up for activities and reccomend fun things to do on the island. I’ll hear their stories of where they’re coming from or where they’re going next on their own unique journeys. I’ve met so many different kinds of travelers. Big groups, solo travelers, long termers, gap year humans, and those on holiday. It’s incredible but hard to say goodbye every few days.
The consistents have been the other reps. Michael, Taiga, and Floris. Three wonderful guys who have become my family here on this island. We lay around and talk all day joking abouth our stories and expereinces. Then around 6:30 every night we gather everyone for a family dinner at the hostel. We’ll play games together afterwards before heading to the beach bar tequila sunrise for a night of dancing. Because of Ramadan and this being a primarily muslim island, everything shuts down a little earlier. So at midnight the music at Tequila Sunrise shuts off and we generally wander down to Irish Bar for some chats and beers to cap off the night. Then its a rinse and repeat the next day with new people. Obviously there is some change and variation in the day to day as we have pool parties and pub quizzes and different themes but its a pretty standard day to day. I’ve been loving being settled a bit. I’ll be here for ten more days until I head back to Vietnam. So when I’m back solo traveling I’ll be consistent with the blogs again. But until then, know that I’m happy, I’m safe, and I’m really enjoying myself. I’m massively grateful that I extended this trip longer so I could have this experience.
